TONI'S PARADOX
I have this stuff in my mind that I am curious about, can you help me out?
I have this paradox that I can't seem to place.
I will try as much as possible to paint you the picture of what I mean, translate the picture 📸 into a question then find me an answer.
There is this discombobulation about population that I can't seem to figure out.
Please read attentively because you must help me out! 🙄
My case study is Nigeria 🇳🇬, a country said to be about 200 million people, the most populous country in Africa. Nigeria 🇳🇬, a country renowned for its level of poverty, and at the same time for how industrious her citizens are.
This population is said to be reducing, the "japa" wave and the mass exodus of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and of course the investors.
When you visit Nigerian Immigration Service Offices in various states, you will encounter various applicants who are plotting their exit from this once great country, when you get to organisations both big and small, towards August, September, you will witness what they call the "japa" wave that sweeps away their best employees but then in all these, the population is still not reducing, Lagos is not empty yet, their gridlocks is not even near reduction. Before you say that it's because Lagos is the business epicenter of Nigeria, let me remind you that Enugu, Kano, Oyo, Abuja are not even reducing.
Aside that, I also wonder why these vacant positions that those people leave behind are not even noticed, I was thinking maybe one day I might get a call that First Bank is looking for staff from Experience Centre Associates up to Manager positions, I also thought by now the country would have started enacting massively the remote job options since those roles were vacated by japa candidates and there are nobody to fill them, this will make people with good experience to work two jobs but I have not seen such happening and now I still ask, Nigeria is empty, everybody is leaving, why is the population not reducing? You must help me answer o.
Another discombobulation is, you remember during Goodluck Jonathan's regime, I am well aware of my financial situation, it wasn't as it is now but it was not bad at all, I did know people who were doing badly, those people who even till now are not better off financially but what marvels me is that these set of people are still the same right now, one would think that Buhari's regime must have dealt with them several blows than they would ever imagine, one would have thought by now you would be walking 🚶♂️ by and seeing people who genuinely died of hunger, dont get me wrong, I'm judging by the level of inflation and exchange rate right now.
